Irony: a state of affairs that seems deliberately contrary to what one would expect.

I love it. Irony, that is. And not just because I’m a former English teacher… because it’s like a little surprise, just waiting to entertain you. And that’s how I felt – thoroughly entertained – when I was playing with these mason jar luminaries that are simply perfect for the holidays.

Make your own Christmas mason jar luminaries

I won’t bore you with instructions for this diy Christmas decor. You can see what I did. The baker’s twine came from Target’s dollar spot (like this here), and the greenery was trimmed from a swag (no one will ever notice the missing corner, right? 😉 ). These flameless tea lights are useful for busy moms who might forget to blow out the mason jar candles.

I have found a central use for these little canning jars in my decor every season this year: spring, summer

So I kept moving them around. And I couldn’t resist taking pictures for you; hopefully at least one of these ideas will inspire you. They would make a wonderful mason jar gift, too!

  1. They are so cute Rachel, I love the classic Christmas colors! I’d probably use them as part of a centerpiece on the coffee table in my bonus room… Maybe inside the opening of a wreath laid flat.

  2. Love these. I have six small children, so I was wondering whether you have real candles inside or battery operated ones? Would both work? Thanks for sharing.

    1. Great question, Kim! I have little battery operated LED candles… because my three little ones make real ones a safety hazard, too. 🙂
